Abyaneh is a unique historical village with pleasant weather and scenic nature located on the foothill of mount Karkas in Isfahan province. Abyaneh is characterized by its amazing architecture and reddish houses with netted windows and is one of the most beautiful villages of Iran that attracts many travelers and visitors. Apart from its unique architecture, Abyaneh is known for its hospitable locals. the majority of residents are old men and women who are busy with local businesses like gardening, and agriculture and creating simple crafts and selling local products like dried fruits, herbs, vinegar, etc. Also, the traditional costume of the locals is an attraction of Abyaneh Village per se. The women wear a colorful long scarf, a shirt, and vest, and a black skirt and the men wear loose black trousers.
The name of the village is derived from the word “Viona” which may mean willow tree! Abyaneh is known to be one of the oldest human settlements in the Iranian Plateau. Although there is a temple of Mithraism cult nearby the village, the oldest monument inside the village is the Harpak Zoroastrian fire temple which is believed to be built during the Achaemenid period (555-330 BC). After the conquest of Iran by Muslims in the 7th century, the People of Abyaneh kept practicing their old religion (Zoroastrianism) till the 17th century when they converted to Islam. It can be the reason that the locals of Abyaneh still speak in the middle Persian language, which was spoken during the Sassanid Period (224-651 Ad) in Iran, in their daily conversations.
The untouched culture of Abyaneh Village is the result of being located at the heart of mountains which made this village hard to access by the foreigners. Abyaneh’s altitude is 2,500 meters above sea level which is the reason why the village is usually covered with snow and gets cold during winter and it has lovely moderate weather during summer.
