Iran is home to two main mountain ranges; the Alburz Mountain Range stretched in north of Iran and the Zagros Mountain Range stretched from northwest of Iran to the southeast of Iran. These two legendary mountain ranges provide numerous natural attractions from waterfalls and valleys to over 4000 meter peaks, that attract mountain climbers and adventure lovers from all over the world. The highest mountain peak in Iran is the volcanic Damavand Peak which is 5670 meters high and the most popular one for climbing. The second highest peak is the Alam Kooh which is 4850 meters high and is the most adventurous peak of Iran because of its ancient glaciers and rock walls. The volcanic Sabalan Peak located 35 kilometers away from Ardabil is 4811 meters high and welcomes adventurers with very scenic landscapes during spring.
Damavand Peak - Iran
Dena Mountainous region is a part of the young Zagros Range near Yasuj in west of Iran and consists of 28 adventurous and technical peaks like Ghash Mastan, with very rich wildlife. Zardkooh is another region of Zagros Range with over 4000-meter peaks like Zardeh, Kino, Hatf Tanan, etc. located in Kuhrang town. Two of the main rivers of Iran including Karun River and Zayandeh Rud originate from these mountains. Other adventurous peaks of Iran which are not a part of the two mountain ranges are Shirkuh (4010) located near Taft town of Yazd Province and the volcanic 4000-meter Taftan peak in Sistan o Baluchistan.

Canyoning in Iran
Canyoning is a type of adventurous and outdoor activity which includes exploring and passing canyons by walking, jumping, swimming, etc. using technical tools. This activity is among high risk sports which needs skill, good physical condition, experience, and team work. Most parts of Iran have canyons which are suitable for adventure canyoning, during summer. One of the most technical and amazing canyons of Iran is the Reghez Canyon located near Darab town of Fars Province, which is known for its wonderful rock formations, caves, and natural water basins and waterfalls. This canyon is 5 kilometers long and it should be passed with professional guide. Another famous canyon of Fars Province is Dom-e Asb (meaning horse tail), which has an eye-catching and wild nature. The Rud Kaloo (meaning: the mad river) is known as the most adventurous and difficult canyoning routes of Iran with harsh and wild nature. This canyon is located in Khuzestan Province and it includes 1800 meters of descending. Azad Rud is another technical canyon of Iran located near Qazvin. Canyoning in Azad Rud includes descending about 18 waterfalls and walls one of which is 35 meters high. All the canyons are in untouched areas where many wild animals live.
